The 2012 Newark Bears kick off the new season with a special on-field picnic open to the public, season ticket holders and media May 16, 2012 at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium! The entire Newark Bears team will be on hand to meet and greet with the fans as they gear up for the season

PICNIC IN THE PARK

The picnic is sponsored by Brick City Bar & Grill. Events will start of with a press conference at 10am followed the picnic from 11am to 1pm.

This is a great opportunity to meet new manger Ken Oberkfell, new pitching coach Ralph Citarella, and Director of Player Development Tim Raines, as well as local baseball stars like Daryl Ward, Mike Ness, Brian Parker, and Damion Seguen.

Admission is only $20, per ticket, which includes food and a beverage. Tickets are limited! Individuals are encouraged to bring a blanket. The deadline to purchase tickets for the picnic with the Newark Bears is May 10th.

Fort Lee Historic Park

On a cliff-top bluff where the Continental Army positioned its batteries over the Hudson in 1776, the grounds of the 33-acre Historic Park blend scenic beauty and history.The Visitor Center is in the center of the Historic Park, providing information on the role of Fort Lee in the American Revolution. Two floors of displays present the story of how General Washington was forced to evacuate the area in November 1776 and lead his famous “Retreat to Victory” across New Jersey.

School Year. From September through December and March through June, schoolchildren studying the American Revolution can visit Fort Lee to experience life as recruits in an eighteenth-century army. This five-hour “living history” program combines discussion, demonstration, and participation to give students a complete lesson in Colonial life. Mother’s Day 2012 Let Mom Sleep Late Kidville in Englewood

Kidville, located at 20 Grand Avenue in Englewood, New Jersey, will host a Mother’s Day fundraiser for Dress For Success of Hudson County on Sunday, May 13th from 9:00 am – 11:00 am.

Fathers or caregivers can visit Kidville for morning gym fun and kids can make a special craft gift to take home to mom. Spots are limited, so please register in advance by sending name, number of children, a phone number and email address to rsvp.englewood@kidville.com.

This event is suited for children up to age six. A $5 cash donation is suggested per family; all donations will benefit Dress for Success.

Kidville operates large, upscale facilities, catering to young children and their families. In addition to offering a wide range of developmental classes for children newborn to six years old, Kidville also features an indoor playspace, a retail boutique, and birthday parties for children up to age nine.

23rd Annual Community Hymn Festival Ridgewood . Multiple Choirs Set for Annual Community Hymn Festival On Sunday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m., choirs from multiple Bergen County churches of all denominations will participate in the 23rd Annual Community Hymn Festival at Ridgewood’s West Side Presbyterian Church. The ecumenical event is open to the public. Co-sponsored by the John R. Rodland Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Northern NJ Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, over $150,000 has been awarded in scholarships to future Church musicians. Rodland Scholarships are the largest such awards to Church Music majors in the nation, funded by a fall campaign and free-will offerings at the festival.

This year’s winner of a $9,000 first prize is Christopher Gaza, a Masters of Music candidate at University of Oklahoma. Ganza will perform at the festival. “Songs, Hymns and Spiritual Songs through the Ages” is the theme of this year’s festival. Organists and choir directors from the various participating churches will direct or play for the over-80-voice choir, hand-bell choir, and brass ensemble. Great hymns of the Church, as well as anthems such as H. Parry’s I Was Glad When They Said Unto Me (sung at the Royal Wedding last fall), and V. Thompson’s My Shepherd Will Supply My Need will be featured. Singers are invited to join the chorus at the only rehearsal on Tuesday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. Music will be provided. The church is at 6 S. Monroe St., corner of W. Ridgewood Ave.

Paramus Farmer’s Market

Come support your local growers! The Paramus Farmer’s Market, officially approved at the April 17 Mayor and Council meeting, will be held for the first time on June 20. The commission hopes to find between 12 and 15 participants, and overhead will be covered by vendor fees, according to Anthony. The vendors themselves will be from communities in both New Jersey and New York that are within 200 miles of Paramus, according to Burke. In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, more specialized items such as sausages, bread, tea, cheeses, natural sodas and sauces will be available, according to Burke. Non-food items such as soap and holistic dog biscuits will be available, and all products are guaranteed freshly made. “That’s the rules of the farmer’s market,” Burke said. “You get it all fresh.” At the end of the day, some of the leftover produce will be donated to local food pantries, according to Burke.
